The Magic Valley Arts Council, Idaho Humanities Council and Independent Television Service host the Indie Lens Pop-Up Free Film Screening season final with Real Boy at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in the Sligar Auditorium of the Twin Falls Center for the Arts, 195 River Vista Place, Twin Falls. Real Boy is the coming-of-age story of Bennett, a transgender teenager with dreams of musical stardom. During the first two years of his gender transition, as Bennett works to repair a strained relationship with his family, he is taken under the wing of his friend and musical hero, celebrated trans folk singer Joe Stevens.

Following the film will be a moderated discussion led by Brandon Scott Tesch, a Magic Valley native who experienced first-hand the stigma and prejudice of growing up gay in rural America. Mastering the art of styling hair and cultivating a loyal and loving clientele have been his professional focus over the last 17 years. Brandon also has a passion for the performing arts. When Brandon was 15, he discovered his alter ego, Ursula, a superhero version of himself that he uses to address the social stigmas and conflicts confronting the LGBTQ community. Last year, Brandon/Ursula created and performed?Snake Snails and Puppy Dog Tails,a CSI’s Fine Arts Stage Door series production documenting Brandon’s gender bending realization that his gender identity lies “somewhere over the rainbow”-somewhere in the middle of the male-female gender spectrum. Brandon has also produced two benefit shows for Magic Valley Pride, delivered a spectacular performance in The Vagina Monologues, and contributed a presentation for Tedx Twin Falls. In addition he presented a lecture for the Herrett Lecture Forum at CSI.
