Landscapes in Watercolor

When:  Saturday, May 18

Where:  MVAC classroom – second floor of Twin Falls Center for the Arts

Time:    9:00 – 4:00. (with 1 hour break for lunch – bring a lunch or eat at the on-site restaurant)

Cost:     $45 for IWS and/or MVAC members, $55 for not-yet members

Level of Experience:  Some watercolor experience advised, advanced watercolor artists welcome. All levels of drawing ability welcome. Open to all adults & students over 14 years of age.

Materials:  Please plan to bring the following materials:

  • Watercolor paints (suggested colors: Ulltramarine, Cobalt, and Cerulean blues; Viridian Green, Yellow Ochre, Quinacridone Gold, Cadmium Yellow, Cobalt Yellow, Azo Orange, Burnt Sienna, Naphthol Red, Aliz Crimson, and Neutral Tint). Tube or pan watercolors are fine, bring your favorites.
  • Watercolor paper (rough or cold press recommended, bring your preferred texture)
  • Watercolor brushes (mops, flat brush, small detail brushes – bring your favorite assortment)
  • Reference photos of a landscape you wish to paint
  • We also encourage you to bring a sketchbook/pencils for taking notes and sketching.

Description:  Join acclaimed watercolor artist Hugh Mossman for an all-day deep dive to the art of watercolor. Hugh will cover some basic composition and watercolor techniques, and will then create a demo painting of a landscape. He will then provide individual composition and technique help, instruction, and critiques as you create your own watercolor landscape!

 

About Hugh Mossman

Watercolor Artist

“My objective in painting is to capture the essence of a subject with a style that is loose and expressive.”

Resides in Boise, Idaho and has worked primarily in watercolor since the early 1980’s. Favorite subjects are landscapes of Idaho’s scenic alpine, canyon and rivers, as well as fly fishing subjects and street scenes, particularly from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

The recipient of many awards, he has been achieved signature member status in  the National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, the Northwest Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, California Watercolor Society and as a Distinguished Merit member of the Idaho Watercolor Society. His watercolors have been published in Splash 17 as well as various sporting magazines. Hugh has taught numerous watercolor workshops and is past president of the Boise Art Museum.
