Idaho Watercolor Society – 2nd Tuesday Painting Group

September 12 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Hello all!

Are you ready to start painting with our 2nd Tuesday group again?  I hope so!

I have heard from several of you who are ready to start, and I look forward to getting together again.

Thanks to MVAC for providing the working space!

I hope you can join us for this kick-off event!

It will be good to hear what art experiences you have had during the summer and to get back in the rhythm of meeting again.

I had an art changing/enriching experience with a class I took in August and want to pass on a bit of what I learned.

What:  2nd Tuesday painting session

When:  Tuesday, September 12

Where:  Twin Falls Center for the Arts

What time:  10:00 a.m. until 2:00 or so

What to bring:  Painting supplies and a painting friend.

Who can come:  We welcome all painters to join us.  Paint in whatever medium you like to use.

Directions:  Twin Falls Center for the Arts – MVAC classroom on the second floor.

What will we do:

Catch up:  We would love to see and hear about what you have been working on.

Please bring along a sample of your work – no matter where you are in the progress – to share with the group.

We all love to see your direction in your art journey.

To start us off: Sketching!  I will share what I learned about sketching scenes, people, etc. and discovered about the power of the pen!

  • We will do pen drawings with punch and add an easy watercolor finish!
  • Explore getting more out of a pen and ink drawing with targeted darks in the focal point, and capturing the essence of a scene.
  • Finish with watercolors to add mood and define the scene.

What to bring for sketching:

  • Waterproof black pen.  FaberCastel, UniPens, Micron…whatever you have.  ”Waterproof” is what matters. A ball point pen can work too!  (I have extra pens if you want to borrow to try out before buying)
  • If you work in a sketchbook, that works great!  Bring it.
  • No sketchbook?  Some smooth watercolor paper or mixed media paper is fine.  (This is practice, so don’t feel like the paper matters much.  It just needs to be heavy enough to take some watercolor without buckling.)
  • Watercolors.  If you don’t have them, I have paint to share.

Next stop:  Paint and create whatever you would like, or continue with a project you are working on, or try out the sketching techniques shared.

Check out the Full Moon Gallery:  A new show is up in the Gallery, so don’t miss the opportunity to view the new show called “Shadows”!

TIP:  Don’t Forget:  Thousand Springs Festival of the Arts – September 23 and 24.  Ritter Island.  Sponsored by MVAC

Looking forward to seeing all of you!
