In this immersive class\, we’ll explore the many moods of water\, from the glassy stillness of a mountain lake to the crashing drama of ocean waves\, and even the explosive energy of geysers. You’ll learn how to capture movement\, light\, and atmosphere while building confidence in painting everything from calm reflections to dynamic splashes. \nWe’ll cover techniques for: \n· Painting reflections on still water \n· Creating the illusion of depth and transparency \n· Depicting ripples\, waves\, and surf \n· Expressing movement and force in crashing waves and geysers \n· Using color and value to create believable water scenes \nWhether you’re drawn to serene landscapes or energized by nature’s power\, this class will give you the tools and techniques to bring water to life on the page. Open to all levels. \n  \nRequired Supply List (alternatively\, you can buy a supply kit from the instructor for $85) \n· Paper: 1 full sheet (22×30”) of 100% Cotton 140 lb cold press watercolor paper. I prefer Arches or Winsor & Newton. We will be doing quarter sheet (11×15”) paintings \n· masking fluid (Winsor & Newton is best) \n· #6 round brush with a good point \n· #12 round brush and/or ½” cat’s tongue brush \n· Scrub brushes (soft and hard) \n· 2-3” hake brush \n· pencil and kneaded eraser \n· palette \n· transfer paper \n· ruling pen/straw \nPaints: \no Cobalt Blue \no Winsor Blue (green shade)\, also called Thalo Blue or Intense Blue \no Burnt Sienna or Quinacridone Burnt Orange \no Winsor Yellow or Cadmium Yellow Light/Pale \no Raw Sienna (Winsor & Newton) \no Quinacridone Rose\, also called Permanent Rose \n  \nSupplies not included in the watercolor kit (please bring): \n· board to tape quarter sheet of paper on \n· masking tape \n· spray bottles (soft mist and one with a harder spray) \n· paper towels \n· water container \n· old towel or cloth \n  \nAbout the Instructor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeslie Lambert (also known as Leslie Redhead) is an award-winning artist\, teacher\, illustrator\, and author known for her dramatic watercolors. Her art focuses on the combination of spontaneity and detail that watercolor has to offer. She continues to explore the possibilities and pushes the medium beyond its limitations to achieve luminous and incredible results. \nLeslie’s paintings are in private and corporate collections worldwide. She has a Master of Education in Art Education and holds signatures with Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) and the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC). Leslie teaches painting and drawing at the University of Victoria in Victoria\, BC and conducts workshops in Canada\, the U.S.\, and Spain. She currently resides near Spokane\, WA. \nHer work is featured in Splash 10: Passionate Brushstrokes from the Splash: Best of Watercolor series\, Leslie Redhead: the life of an artist\, and Making It! Case Studies of Successful Canadian Artists. She is the author of Watercolor 365 and illustrator the children’s book\, Island in the Salish Sea by Sheryl McFarlane. DESCRIPTION:The City of Rupert\, Idaho (“City”) is seeking proposals from qualified artists or artist teams to design\, fabricate\, and assist in the installation of a permanent outdoor public artwork at the\nprominent intersection of 7th Street and G Street\, at the end of Fremont Avenue in the City. The City intends this monument to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026 and to celebrate the spirit\, heritage\, and shared values of the Rupert\, Idaho community. \nThe City encourages proposals ranging from traditional sculptural monuments to modern or abstract works that speak to Rupert’s history\, identity\, and enduring American values of freedom\, independence\, and community pride. \nProject Goals\n Honor the Nation’s Founding: Mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a lasting and meaningful public artwork.\n Celebrate Local Identity: Reflect Rupert’s history\, culture\, and values—whether agricultural heritage\, pioneering spirit\, or civic pride.\n Create a Landmark: Provide a visually striking\, durable work of art that becomes a recognizable point of pride for residents and visitors while creating a cohesive element in the historic downtown. \n  \nEligibility\nThis opportunity is open to professional artists\, art vendors\, and artist teams residing in the United States.\n Previous experience completing outdoor public art installations is preferred but not required.\n Artists of diverse backgrounds\, perspectives\, and artistic styles are encouraged to apply \n  \nArtwork Guidelines\nThe artwork should:\n Be permanent\, durable\, and low-maintenance\, suitable for Idaho’s four-season climate.\n Be visible and impactful from a distance.\n Be safe for public interaction and able to be placed in the intersection without obstructing pedestrian or vehicle line-of-site requirements in the surrounding area.\n Include interpretive or educational elements if desired (plaques\, integrated text\, etc.).\nThe City is open to a wide range of artistic expressions: traditional figurative sculpture\, abstract monumental art\, or multi-material installations that meet the project’s commemorative purpose. \n  \nBudget\nThe City has identified $35\,000 for this project; however\, the final budget may exceed the amount depending on fundraising and the cost of the selected artwork.\nThis amount must cover all costs related to the design\, engineering\, fabrication\, transportation\, installation\, artist travel\, insurance\, and any other expenses necessary to complete the project. \n  \nProposal Submission Requirements\nInterested artists must submit the following in digital format (PDF preferred) and delivered to Rupert City Hall by deadline of 12/20/2025.\n1.
