SUMMARY:Artist Opportunity - Soft Sculpture
DESCRIPTION:Deadline: March 27th\, 2026\nArtists Notified: April 21st\, 2026\nEligibility: Emerging and established artists in Oregon\, Washington\, and Idaho.\nExhibit Dates: June 5th – August 14th\, 2026\n\nUmpqua Valley Arts is proud to present Malleable\, a call for soft sculpture art that explores the use of non-rigid materials as a challenge to the conventional nature of sculpture. \nOpen to emerging and established artists in Oregon\, Washington\, and Idaho\, this is a juried exhibition highlighting the use of soft materials and processes in art. \nSoft sculpture is a term given to works created from non-rigid materials such as cloth\, foam\, rubber\, paper\, fibers\, and similar substances. As a challenge to the conventional form of sculpture\, artworks made in these mediums evoke other notions that more rigid sculptural media do not give. \nIn Malleable\, our goal is to emphasize/focus on these materials to investigate the meanings/notions that artists pull from these materials and how they apply them to their art practice. \nThis regional exhibit is open to media and modes of making that focus on materials that are soft (including craft). There is no specific theme\, but there will be an emphasis on objects that use soft materials in the execution. Welcoming both hanging and free-standing sculptures (hanging sculptures must include hanging wire or some other hardware that works with UVA’s hanging systems). \n  \nTo apply\, click here!
