DESCRIPTION:Watercolor Safari: Painting Animals of the African Wild \nwith Leslie Lambert \nWednesdays\, February 18\, March 4\, March 11\, March 18\, & April 1 | 5:30-7:30pm \n$120 / MVAC Members \n$150 / Non-Members (membership begins at on $25/year! Each week we’ll focus on one animal – from elephants and giraffes to lions\, zebras\, and birds – using simple shapes\, layered watercolor washes\, and clear step-by-step guidance. You’ll learn how to suggest fur and texture\, capture personality through eyes and posture\, and create lively color palettes that bring your animals to life. \nThis course is designed for all levels\, including beginners who have always wanted to paint animals but didn’t know where to start. \nAll are welcome – no drawing experience necessary. \nPlease bring your own watercolor supplies (suggested supply list below)\, or purchase a complete beginner supply kit from Leslie for $75 – optional\, pre-order is recommended. Alternatively\, you may bring a pad of watercolor paper\, or a watercolor journal or sketchbook with watercolor paper.\nmasking fluid (Winsor & Newton is best)\nassortment of watercolor brushes such as a #6 round brush with a good point\, a #12 round brush and/or ½” cat’s tongue brush\, Scrub brushes (soft and hard)\, and any other brush that you love to use\npencil and kneaded eraser\npalette\ntransfer paper\nwatercolor paints – suggested colors listed below. Her artwork\, characterized by vibrant hues\, has garnered widespread acclaim and has been exhibited in prestigious galleries and exhibitions worldwide. Lambert’s ability to push the boundaries of traditional watercolor painting has established her as a trail blazer in the arts. \nIn addition to signature status with the Cowgirl Artists of America (CGA)\, Lambert is a signature member of Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS)\, and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor. She is also an associate member of Women Artists of the West (WAOW). Lambert is the author of Watercolor 365: Daily Tips\, Tricks\, and Techniques and the illustrator of the children’s book\, Island in the Salish Sea\, by Sheryl McFarlane. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 14 \n10:00 a.m. – Noon (we will stop accepting walk-ins at 11:30am if classes are full) \nMagic Valley Arts Council – Ground Floor \nCost:  FREE for ages 18 and under \nHop\, skip\, stamp\, and jump into spring with a creative Second Saturday youth workshop! Kids 18 and under can join in and learn beginning printmaking by creating a custom stamp\, and connect performing to visual arts with a spring-inspired puppet project. \nParents\, bring your little ones out for a morning of creativity—no registration required! Drop-ins are welcome until 11:30 AM. If the workshop is full when you arrive\, we may ask you to explore the gallery upstairs while waiting 10-15 minutes for a spot to open up. \nAttendance is no charge\, but we request that you RSVP online below or by calling 208-734-ARTS (2787) so we have an idea of how many kids to plan for. \n

Or have you always wondered how those beautiful pigments came to be? Join us for Mica Magic\, a deep dive on how to create custom watercolor paints using mica powders\, mineral powders\, and a binder like gum arabic and honey. Local artist Jenn Young will guide students through creating 2-4 custom watercolor paints\, with time after mixing to test the paints out with a small watercolor painting! Students will take their custom paints home at the end of class. \n  \nJenn Young is a talented artist based in Southern Idaho who by her own description\, loves to make things! While she generally focuses on watercolor and woodworking\, you may find her dabbling in a wide variety of art forms. This class is for ages 14 & up. \n  \nJoin local artist Alex Hartwig for a deep dive into beginning acrylic painting! He will assist students as they learn how to map out a painting\, glaze it\, and apply paint washes to develop the work. This is a process class\, so instead of following along step-by-step and all leaving with the same art piece\, students will learn the theory and process behind acrylic painting to create a custom masterpiece. Students are encouraged to bring an in-progress canvas if they have one (if not\, all supplies are provided)\, or any other reference material for the art piece they would like to create (photos\, drawings\, etc). \n  \nAlex Hartwig is a teaching and working artist located in Idaho.
