Click here to join or renew your membership and save.) \nRegister online below\, or call 208-734-ARTS (2787) to sign up! \nThis class is optimized for kids and kids at heart\, starting at 10 years old! \n  \nJoin Norman Shurtliff\, author of the Skull Cat graphic novel series\, as he guides you how to create your very own cartoon\, comic\, or graphic novel! Split across three weeks\, each class will cover something new. By the end of the series\, you will officially be a comic strip author/artist! You can work on the same comic throughout the series\, or a new one each class. \nWeek one: Character Design \n\nLearn Norman’s process for designing characters. See how he designed the characters from his graphic novel series Skull Cat. Design your own characters using his Ultra Super Stickman Deluxe method.\n\nWeek two: Story Design \n\nLearn the steps of the three act story structure\, and why planning your story is important. Learn how to find a story amongst all the world building we love to do. Write a basic story together.\n\nWeek three: Drawing Comics \n\nLearn the steps to creating a comic book\, like penciling\, inking\, and lettering. See behind the scenes of how Skull Cat was created. Create your own short story comic using a provided template or begin your epic graphic novel from scratch.\n\n  \nOpen to all levels\, ages 10 and up. Here you will learn how to draw eyes\, noses\, and mouths from different angles. In the end\, combining all of those elements to create a portrait. After this class\, students will be able to take away an understanding of facial structure\, light value\, and how to draw from reference.  \nWe’ll cover specific techniques for: \n\nlight direction and source\nshading and blending\ncreating values in black and white\n\nWhether you’ve drawn portraits before or you are completely intimidated by the prospect\, this is the class for you! Jude will break down the process into simple steps that can be applied to any portrait. \nOpen to all levels\, ages 14 and up.
