Whether you’re drawn to the elegance of a single towering oak or the rich textures of a forest\, this class will guide you through the techniques to paint the beauty of trees. You’ll learn how to create realistic bark textures\, render delicate branches\, and bring foliage to life with color and light. Perfect for artists of all levels\, this class will provide step-by-step instruction as you develop your skills in portraying one of nature’s most iconic subjects. \n  \nSuggested Supply List (alternatively\, you can buy a supply kit from the instructor for $75) \nPaints  \nAny professional brand of tube watercolor or Cotman Student Brand will work. \n\nWinsor Blue (also called Thalo Blue) or Intense Blue\nCadmium Yellow Light OR Winsor Yellow\nPermanent Alizarin Crimson\nPermanent/Quincradone Rose\nFrench Ultramarine Blue\nBurnt Sienna\nRaw Sienna\n\nPaper \nA full sheet (22×30”) of 100% cotton\, 140 lb cold press watercolor paper (I prefer Arches or Winsor & Newton brand). We will be doing the paintings on quarter sheets (11×15”) or smaller. \nBrush \n\nGood quality #6 round watercolor brush\n#12 round watercolor brush\nSynthetic Fan Brush\n\nPalette \nArt Masking Fluid (Winsor & Newton brand works best) \n  \nOther (items not included in the supply kit) \nWater container \nPaper towels/cloth \nPencil and eraser \nBoard large enough to hold a ¼ sheet of paper (foamcore works well for this) \nMasking tape \nScrub brush or child’s size toothbrush \nSpray bottle (light mist) \nTransfer paper (optional) \n  \nAbout the Instructor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeslie Lambert (also known as Leslie Redhead) is an award-winning artist\, teacher\, illustrator\, and author known for her dramatic watercolors. Her art focuses on the combination of spontaneity and detail that watercolor has to offer. She continues to explore the possibilities and pushes the medium beyond its limitations to achieve luminous and incredible results. \nLeslie’s paintings are in private and corporate collections worldwide. She has a Master of Education in Art Education and holds signatures with Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) and the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC). Leslie teaches painting and drawing at the University of Victoria in Victoria\, BC and conducts workshops in Canada\, the U.S.\, and Spain. She currently resides near Spokane\, WA. \nHer work is featured in Splash 10: Passionate Brushstrokes from the Splash: Best of Watercolor series\, Leslie Redhead: the life of an artist\, and Making It! Case Studies of Successful Canadian Artists. She is the author of Watercolor 365 and illustrator the children’s book\, Island in the Salish Sea by Sheryl McFarlane. As part of our Second Saturday in the Gallery event\, kids 18 and under can get creative with colorful pipe cleaners\, crafting fun and festive rings\, shamrocks\, and other lucky decorations. This hands-on activity is perfect for young children and a great way to celebrate the holiday with a little artistic flair! \nParents\, bring your little ones out for a morning of creativity—no registration required! Drop-ins are welcome until 11:30 AM. If the workshop is full when you arrive\, we may ask you to explore the gallery upstairs while waiting 10-15 minutes for a spot to open up.
