Suitable for ages 14 and up.  \nClass size is limited for the best experience\, sign up early to save your spot!  \nRegister online below\, call MVAC at 208-734-ARTS (2787)\, or stop in to sign up. \n  \nSecond Saturday at the Full Moon Gallery presents Illuminated Lettering with Michelle George \nIlluminated Lettering\, also known as “versals” is one of the very oldest forms of art.   A versal is a large capital letter used to start out a word\, poem\, verse\, name\, or song.  We will be decorating them in a variety of ways\, using both watercolor and pen and ink.  We will make use of both positive and negative spaces to make our designs expressive\, unique\, and fun! Both beginners and more advanced artists will enjoy creating designs that are as simple or elaborate as you please!  \nAll materials provided. No experience necessary — beginners welcome! \n  \nAbout the Instructor: \nMichelle George is a mostly self-taught watercolor artist\, and has been painting for over 25 years.  After moving to Idaho in 2020\, she has taken full advantage of the CSI classes which are free for those over 60 \, including Drawing 1 and 2\, Art History\, Calligraphy\, and Figure Drawing.  Michelle enjoys teaching adults\, and teaches a watercolor group that meets around her kitchen table\, as well as students that she teaches over Zoom.  From 2019 to 2023\, Michelle was the Co-Program Director for the California Watercolor Association\, conducting monthly General Meetings and hosting demonstrations over Zoom.  She has participated in Art and Soul in 2023 and 2025\, and just recently has become the representative for the Idaho Water Society south central region. \n  \nRefund Policy: all ticket\, table\, or seat purchases are NON REFUNDABLE from date of purchase.

Her art focuses on the combination of spontaneity and detail that watercolor has to offer. She continues to explore the possibilities and pushes the medium beyond its limitations to achieve luminous and incredible results. \nLeslie’s paintings are in private and corporate collections worldwide. She has a Master of Education in Art Education and holds signatures with Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) and the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC). Leslie teaches painting and drawing at the University of Victoria in Victoria\, BC and conducts workshops in Canada\, the U.S.\, and Spain. She currently resides near Spokane\, WA. \nHer work is featured in Splash 10: Passionate Brushstrokes from the Splash: Best of Watercolor series\, Leslie Redhead: the life of an artist\, and Making It! Case Studies of Successful Canadian Artists. She is the author of Watercolor 365 and illustrator the children’s book\, Island in the Salish Sea by Sheryl McFarlane. Sketchbooks can be used to record your art journey and tell your unique story. You will learn how to use your sketchbook as a visual journal of your daily experiences using illustrations and words. Sketchbooks are a great way to record travel. In this workshop\, you will learn how to set up attractive pages using drawings\, paintings\, pictures\, lettering\, stamps\, stencils\, stickers\, maps\, and more. \nAs a theme for this workshop\, we will focus on icons of the holiday seasons. We will be using references common to the holidays to design pages that tell your unique story. You are welcome to use another theme if you choose. Each week we’ll focus on one animal – from elephants and giraffes to lions\, zebras\, and birds – using simple shapes\, layered watercolor washes\, and clear step-by-step guidance. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 14 \n10:00 a.m. – Noon (we will stop accepting walk-ins at 11:30am if classes are full) \nMagic Valley Arts Council – Ground Floor \nCost:  FREE for ages 18 and under \nHop\, skip\, stamp\, and jump into spring with a creative Second Saturday youth workshop! Kids 18 and under can join in and learn beginning printmaking by creating a custom stamp\, and connect performing to visual arts with a spring-inspired puppet project. \nParents\, bring your little ones out for a morning of creativity—no registration required! Drop-ins are welcome until 11:30 AM. Or have you always wondered how those beautiful pigments came to be? Join us for Mica Magic\, a deep dive on how to create custom watercolor paints using mica powders\, mineral powders\, and a binder like gum arabic and honey. Local artist Jenn Young will guide students through creating 2-4 custom watercolor paints\, with time after mixing to test the paints out with a small watercolor painting! Students will take their custom paints home at the end of class. \n  \nJenn Young is a talented artist based in Southern Idaho who by her own description\, loves to make things! We will learn the different between permanent ink and water-soluble ink and the best way to use both.
