2nd Tuesday Watercolor Class – IWS

What:  2nd Tuesday painting session: Watercolor Woven Heart Baskets

When:  Tuesday, February 11

Where:  Twin Falls Center for the Arts

What time:  10:00 a.m. until 1:00 or so

What to bring:  Watercolor paints, paper, & brush

Who can come:  We welcome all painters to join us.  Paint in whatever medium you like to use, and bring what you are working on.

Directions:  Twin Falls Center for the Arts – MVAC classroom on the second floor.

 

What will we do:

The directions are posted below, and Julie will be there to help us all through the steps.

(If you can, please print and bring the directions below for yourself.  That would help a bunch.)

 

Instructions:

  • Cut two strips of paper in identical dimensions – suggested 3″x10″
  • Cut one 1″ strip for handle
  • Draw cut guidelines on the back side of each large piece. These guidelines should be 1″ apart, and 2″ away from the top and bottom edges of paper.
  • Watercolor the blank side of the large pieces, and handle if desired.
  • Once dry, fold large pieces in half and cut along guidelines, ensuring to not cut through the top/bottom of the piece.
  • Weave, ensuring the watercolor is on the outside.
    • Insert Strip 1 into strip A.  Then open Strip 1 and insert Strip B.  Open strip C and insert Strip 1; open strip 1 and Insert Strip D.  One strip will now be interwoven.
    • Slide the interwoven strip up about 3/4″ on the other piece of paper and begin interweaving strip 2, making sure to alternate the weave (i.e., begin by opening Strip 2 and inserting Strip A etc)
    • Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the remaining strips.  The result: a heart-shaped woven basket.
  • Attach handle using tape, glue, or staples.
