This class is open to all ages 14 and up!

Join Norman Shurtliff, author of the Skull Cat graphic novel series, as he guides you how to create your very own cartoon, comic, or graphic novel! Split across three weeks, each class will cover something new. By the end of the series, you will officially be a comic strip author/artist! You can work on the same comic throughout the series, or a new one each class.

Week one: Character Design

• Learn Norman’s process for designing characters. See how he designed the characters from his graphic novel series Skull Cat. Design your own characters using his Ultra Super Stickman Deluxe method.

Week two: Story Design

• Learn the steps of the three act story structure, and why planning your story is important. Learn how to find a story amongst all the world building we love to do. Write a basic story together.

Week three: Drawing Comics

• Learn the steps to creating a comic book, like penciling, inking, and lettering. See behind the scenes of how Skull Cat was created. Create your own short story comic using a provided template or begin your epic graphic novel from scratch.

Open to all levels, ages 14 and up. All supplies provided.
